Sport integrated into the working day

6 April International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

Polish colleagues start a cycling and triathlon group and get active together!

Who hasn’t experienced it? Often there is not enough energy to do sports in one’s free time or at least to go for a walk after work. Knees ache from standing in a warehouse, backs ache from sitting at a desk or behind a steering wheel – in many professions there are typical postures that can cause tension and pain in the long run. Exercise helps against the complaints, cycling is even particularly easy on the joints.

“IC OLD BOY” or “IC” for short is the name of the cycling group of our Polish colleagues. “The idea for the name of our group is derived from the Italian ‘infrasettimanale classico’, which means ‘middle of the week’. Every Wednesday we meet to do sports together after work,” says Tomasz Bielski, Head of the Cycling Team & Deputy Director of the Gliwice / Nagel Polska branch.

Currently, the group consists of eight participants from the Gliwice branch. “I admit, in the beginning it was hard to motivate myself to do sports every Wednesday. It was easier because of the motivation of my colleagues. In the meantime, I look forward to the joint sporting Wednesday,” says Mirek Hennek, an employee in the national operations department of Nagel Polska.

The first competitions have already been contested together and more are being planned. Participating in competitions requires many hours of training and commitment. “This self-discipline not only helps us stay healthy, but generally improves productivity and concentration,” says Marcin Pakulski, Triathlon Team Leader and International Sales Manager Kopytów Branch / Nagel Polska.

Triathlon fever is already on the rise

The rising temperatures of the past weeks have awakened them from their hibernation – the Nagel Polska triathlon group.

In the meantime, eight cyclists and runners, who make a lot of kilometres on the country roads and forest paths, have joined forces at the branches. Day after day, week after week, they train before the race gets underway at the beginning of June. 1.9 kilometres swimming, 90 kilometres cycling, 21 kilometres running.
