Nagel-Group expands its network: New mega-centre for food logistics in Bremen
Bremen, 23 July 2026. With a new mega-centre at the Bremen Freight Transport Centre (GVZ), the Nagel-Group, one of Europe’s leading food logistics providers, is reaching the next milestone in its strategic development. The 36,650 m² food hub strengthens the company’s presence in northern Germany and creates additional capacity for further growth. The bespoke build-to-suit project is being built on a site of around 90,510 m² and is being developed and constructed by Panattoni, a developer specialising in industrial, logistics and commercial property. Construction work is set to begin in October 2026. Completion and handover are scheduled for December 2027.
“The new logistics centre in Bremen is an investment in the future of food logistics. The new site will combine state-of-the-art logistics processes with a sustainable energy concept and lay the foundations for further growth. At the same time, it will create modern jobs in one of Germany’s most important logistics regions,” explains Lars-Erik Poths, CEO of the Nagel-Group.

The logistics centre will comprise around 29,500 m² of warehouse space, 5,200 m² of modern office and staff facilities, and 1,950 m² of mezzanine space. The property will be specifically tailored to the requirements of food logistics and will feature, amongst other things, a cross-dock terminal and temperature-controlled areas for ambient, fresh and ultra-fresh products. The planned facilities also include a four-storey office wing, a truck workshop with a car wash, a petrol station and an extensive charging infrastructure for trucks, cars and bicycles. Around 400 new jobs are set to be created at the site, including around 20 apprenticeship places.
A key component of the project is its sustainable energy concept. For energy supply, photovoltaic systems are planned in combination with an electricity storage facility that temporarily stores self-generated solar power and makes it available as required. Heating and cooling will be provided fossil-fuel-free via a modern heating and cooling system with integrated building management technology. The aim is for the new building to achieve DGNB Gold certification.
The bespoke development of the new logistics centre is based on close collaboration between Nagel-Group and Panattoni. “The project demonstrates how important it is for all parties involved to work together as partners. Right from an early stage of planning, we were able to work with Nagel-Group to develop a concept that is optimally tailored to their requirements whilst also meeting high economic and sustainability standards,” says Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner at Panattoni DACH & Nordics.
With its trimodal connections via road, rail and water, the Bremen Freight Village (GVZ Bremen) ranks among Europe’s most efficient logistics hubs. Its immediate proximity to the A281, A1 and A27 motorways, Bremen Airport and the seaports of Bremerhaven, Wilhelmshaven and Hamburg creates ideal conditions for national and international goods flows.
With the new Mega-Centre, Nagel-Group is consistently pursuing its strategy of modernising and further developing its European network of sites. The Bremen site will play a key role in further strengthening the efficiency, sustainability and future-proofing of food logistics in Germany and Europe.
