An insight: Book & Claim at the Nagel Group
The demands on modern supply chains are increasing, particularly in food logistics, where cold chains, tight time slots and complex networks have a significant impact on the carbon footprint. At the same time, there is growing pressure to report emissions transparently and reliably, and to develop solutions that reduce the carbon footprint within one’s own supply chain. This is precisely where the Nagel-Group comes in with its Book & Claim module, creating a solution that documents the emissions benefits of alternative fuels and makes them available to customers for transparent integration into their sustainability reports – based on recognised certification and verification mechanisms.
The Book & Claim approach enables the accounting allocation of verified emission reductions from defined energy/fuel quantities (e.g. HVO) to transport activities – without physically altering the emissions of individual journeys. The allocation is carried out in accordance with the ‘Voluntary Market-Based Measures Framework for Logistics Emissions Accounting and Reporting’ published by the Smart Freight Centre (audited by Müller-BBM Cert). Now available: HVO as a renewable alternative to diesel
Our Book-&-Claim solution is now available. During the pilot phase, the biogenic fuel HVO 100 (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) was used – a hydrogenated vegetable oil-based product compliant with the ISCC standard, which contributes to lower greenhouse gas emissions under certain conditions.
How to use Book & Claim
With our Book & Claim solution, companies can account for emissions reductions from certified fuel or electric mobility operations in a transparent manner. All claims are based on documented quantities, recognised calculation methods and a registry process. This creates a verifiable data set for accounting and reporting – without the need for operational adjustments to day-to-day business.
From 2026, we will be expanding Book & Claim to include the accounting attributes of selected electric lorry operations. The same principles apply here: certified evidence, clear system boundaries and external verifiability.
