Hamburg megaproject enters final phase – A look behind the scenes

At the Hamburg-Allermöhe site, one of the Nagel-Group’s key infrastructure projects is reaching its next milestone: the expansion of the logistics centre is entering its final phase.

Since the project began in 2023, the site has been undergoing extensive modernisation and expansion. The aim is to develop the facility into a state-of-the-art centre for temperature-controlled food logistics – with greater capacity, more efficient processes and a future-proof infrastructure.

With an investment of over 60 million euros, the project is one of the Nagel-Group’s largest construction projects. On an expanded area of more than 70,000 square metres, additional handling and storage capacity is being created, which will strengthen the site in the long term.

Sustainability firmly embedded

Alongside operational efficiency, the focus is also on sustainability: energy-efficient refrigeration systems, solar panels on the hall roofs, battery storage to optimise on-site electricity consumption, and charging infrastructure for low-emission vehicles ensure the site is fit for the future. In this way, the expansion actively contributes to supporting our environmental goals and making operations more resource-efficient in the long term.

Building within an existing structure – a particular challenge

The project is being carried out in several construction phases – and under demanding conditions: the site is being completely restructured whilst daily logistics processes continue.

Construction phases already completed include new office and administrative spaces, a multi-storey car park and a modern transhipment hall for temperature-controlled logistics. The project is currently in its third construction phase, during which a further logistics hall is being built.

“We are fundamentally restructuring this site whilst keeping it up and running – with daily logistics processes continuing without interruption. This requires the utmost precision and close coordination between all parties involved.” – André Pleines

Our partner BREMER, who is building the logistics centre as the main contractor, offers an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes. This latest video, filmed directly on site, shows how planning, construction and day-to-day operations interlock – and how, step by step, a modern logistics hub is taking shape.

With completion scheduled for the end of 2026, we are further strengthening the Hamburg-Allermöhe site in a targeted manner and laying the foundations for even more efficient and sustainable food logistics.
