Automated inventory checks at B+S Logistik: drone in live operation
A recent insight into the Bremen site of B+S GmbH Logistik und Dienstleistungen shows how modern technologies can be used to make warehouse processes more efficient. For the first time, an autonomous drone from doks.solution is recording pallet locations and ensuring transparent inventory information that is available at all times.
In the high-bay warehouse, the drone moves completely autonomously through the rows of shelves. Equipped with cameras and sensors, it records pallet locations and the related inventory information, even at great heights and in areas that are difficult to access. Inventory checks are carried out parallel to day-to-day business and can be performed without interrupting ongoing operations.
Building on the experience gained at the Bremen pilot site, the drone is now also in operation in the West and South regions and, in the long term, is opening up access to this technology for additional sites.
From the technology partner’s perspective, practicality is the main priority. ‘The solution is designed to integrate seamlessly into existing warehouse processes and function reliably in live operation,’ explains Mike Becker, CTO of doks.solution.
B+S Logistik focuses on concrete added value in everyday work. ‘In everyday warehouse operations, our main concern is to have reliable inventory information at all times without additional effort,’ says Marcel dos Santos, authorised signatory and regional manager North at B+S Logistik. ‘With the drone, we create more transparency in the warehouse and noticeably reduce search processes.’ The use of drone technology thus underlines B+S’s commitment to deploying new technologies in a targeted manner where they simplify processes, relieve employees and complement existing structures in a meaningful way.
