Until 6 January 2021, the users of our website could vote and decide upon the distribution of 50,000 euros. Around 5000 votes were cast over the voting period.
The pandemic affects everyone, but it hits those who were already in a precarious situation particularly hard. Families affected by conditions such as illness, addiction, poverty or unemployment even before the pandemic are particularly vulnerable during these times. This project is based in the rural region of Eastern Poland and ensures that the children of vulnerable families receive psychological support, social and medical care, as well as a hot meal every day.
Eight boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 15 whose parents are experiencing mental health problems are currently living in the Graz residential project. A professional team looks after them since they do not receive the necessary attention and care at home. In this particular project, the parents are nevertheless directly involved and retain their parental roles. The group needs money for its upcoming move to a new house. The donations are to be used specifically to furnish the children’s rooms.
This programme helps young families in difficult circumstances to get their life back on track through outpatient and flexible support. The main priority is given to improving living standards and parenting skills in the long term and sustainably to avoid removing children from their families. Moreover, adolescents and young adults are supported and looked after as they take their first steps towards independence.
Many families living on the Zanzibar Archipelago, which lies off the coast of East Africa, have to endure extreme poverty. This project by SOS Children’s Villages Denmark provides extensive support to families in need. They receive food, medical care, and adequate housing. Moreover, training or investments for the parents serves to provide them with the skills or resources they need to better provide for their family themselves in the future.
The Greek refugee camps were already among the five projects you could vote for last year. The big fire at the Moria camp a few months ago has worsened the situation dramatically. This donation will help to provide psychosocial aid, enable better access to education and safe shelter for as many affected people as possible. The refugees also receive legal assistance if they were separated from their family members during their escape.
