Dairy Products from France – For Commercial Chains in 5 European Countries

Task

One of our French customers is being requested by one of their major clients to make deliveries now to the central depots in Germany, Austria, Poland, and the Czech Republic. Up to now they have always declined, because the distances are too far, the number of delivery points too high, and the disposition effort and expenditure on the freight market was too great. Now, however, pressure from the competition means that they have to take this challenge seriously. But how, if there is no data available about quantities, order sizes, or weekday regularity?

In a discussion with one of our branch managers a simple yet effective solution was rapidly reached.

Solution

The producers hand over to us daily the quantities for one to two semi-trailers. The Nagel-Group deals with the main run as far as the best-located German branch (depending on the day’s location in the north, south, or west) which the driver can reach during the shift period. The data is transferred beforehand, so that the right mix of direct deliveries and network utilisation can be planned. The goods are onwards loaded on the evening they arrive, and reach the central depots on time, as scheduled. Thanks to the already existing direct connections with the locations in the network to almost all European trading centres, the fluctuations and surprises in volume planning that occur in this business are no longer a problem at all.

Outcome

This customer benefits from the existing international network and the system transport procedures of the Nagel-Group. The very high density of central depot deliveries is a particular advantage in this case, and makes long and elaborate isolated disposition superfluous. As well as that, both the customer and the environment benefit from the high load capacity of our vehicles, as well as from the bundling effect in the CO2 balance. And the competitors on the home market again has a new challenge to face.
