Premium soup and ready-made meals producer – new warehouse for synergies that make sense

Task

Already since 2004, a big soup producer with international name has been a warehouse client of the Nagel-Group. The Nagel-Group was able to convince the company at a tender for their complete warehouse services. Commissioning the Nagel-Group to construct a completely new warehouse project continued the collaboration.

Solution

The new facility has been constructed by the Nagel-Group in collaboration with an experienced logistics investor. Together, the planning of all activities was discussed and prepared. A highlight of this process: The ingenious energy concept for minimised consumption using regenerative energy.

The construction circumstances were complicated by different factors: For two months, archaeologists carried out excavation works parallel to the construction process. On top of that, the harsh winter caused delays. Nevertheless, the logistics property with around 40,500 m² of hall area and around 800 m² of office and social space was constructed in relatively short time. The result was the biggest coherent warehouse of the Nagel-Group to date.

The size of the facility enabled the combination of different clients in one operation. Alongside the soup producer, a big producer of jam was also implemented. All clients of the facility were integrated into the same warehouse management system (WMS). This was a further challenge since all existing client systems had to be migrated in the WMS. Furthermore, the entire intra-logistics had to be planned and adapted to the different needs of the various clients: Around 40,000 pallets had to be stored and relocated. The Nagel-Group had to execute the entire moving plan precisely and in close coordination with all participants.

Outcome

Within 10 challenging months from turning the first sod, the warehouse was put into operation. Thanks to the model collaboration of all project participants, all changeovers were executed without the end user noticing it. In the new property, the Nagel-Group is bundling a variety of warehouse activities at one location. The full complex makes for an excellent platform with synergies for all clients.
