Fruit Trade – More Transparency through Standardised Warehouse Processes

Task

In order to improve its warehouse processes, a renowned mid-size fruit importer, with especially high quality demands, turned to Nagel-Group. The existing manually controlled order management system was to be transformed into standardised procedures. Our client expected a shift to a new system to make the process control more efficient and reliable.

Solution

Together with the client, Nagel-Group decided to focus on the implementation of new warehouse management software (CALwms) as the centrepiece of the project. Preparatory measures for the implementation were, amongst other things, a new structure for administrative and goods entry processes: all items were made clearly identifiable through an entry label, and crucial data was transferred securely to the new system.

The following new processes were subsequently introduced:

  • Item master data transfer via remote data transfer
  • Goods entry registration in the warehouse management system
  • Product storage with RF-scanning
  • Storing position management via the warehouse management system
  • Order notification via remote data transfer
  • Special processes and individual solutions implemented through the project: Customs clearance via remote data transfer

Result

The introduction of the warehouse management software CALwms enables a structured goods entry process. Now the standardised modules can be combined in a flexible way. The entire warehousing process is transparent and comprehensive for everyone involved. The storage position management follows a clear plan – all items are being stored at a defined storage space and the outgoing goods process is supported by scanning of the pallet label. The error rate in order picking has been lowered significantly. Last but not least, customs clearance is now automated in the system and therefore quicker and less complicated. In short, the client’s processes are significantly leaner and improved on a long term basis.
